IMPACT: Helping children discover the magic of reading

In September 2022, the Pioneer Library System partnered with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to provide free, age-appropriate books to children under five in Cleveland, McClain, and Pottawatomie Counties.

This program aims to instill a love of reading in children at an early age, which helps them to become “reading-ready” when they start kindergarten.

Since its launch, the Pioneer Library System’s partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has distributed more than 109,000 books to eligible children in our communities.

Thank you to our donors for making a real difference in the lives of our youngest community members by supporting early literacy initiatives like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. To learn more or enroll your child, please visit pioneerlibrarysystem.org/services/imagination-library.

Celebrate Black History Month at the Library

Please join us for programs and exhibitions celebrating Black culture through literature, music, and art in observance of Black History Month. All ages are welcome! Registration is requested for the Crowns Tea (link below).

In My Experience: Barron Ryan

Friday, Feb. 23, Norman Public Library West

Oklahoma native and jazz pianist Barron Ryan will perform classical music, some jazz numbers, and some of his own compositions, including a reading from his book, Honey, If It Wasn’t for You.

Crowns Tea: A Celebration of Black Fashion

Sunday, Feb. 25, The Well, Norman

2024 marks the 19th annual Crowns Tea! This community event includes a reading from the book Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats, a panel discussion of Black fashion, and food and tea.

In addition to the scheduled programs, Norman Public Library West and Norman Public Library East will exhibit works by local artist Markus Muse throughout the month.

These projects were made possible, in part, by a grant from the Norman Arts Council Hotel Tax Grant Program.
